Especially if something's wrong. Tax rates change, states restructure their
brackets mid-year, and a corrected number helps everyone who uses this next.
This is the most useful thing you can send. To make it quick to fix, include:
The state, and the county or city if it's a local rate
What the tool showed, and what it should be
Where you're getting the correct figure — ideally a state revenue department page
Corrections sourced to a state's own published schedule get fixed fastest, because that's what
the tool is built from. Third-party calculator sites frequently disagree with each other and
with the states themselves.
Other things worth writing about
A state that behaves oddly. Several have phase-outs, recaptures, or
surcharges that are only partly modelled, and each is noted in the tool. If one is off by
more than a rounding error, I want to know.
A missing input. If your offer has something the tool can't represent,
describe it.
It didn't match your paycheck. Tell me the gap and roughly where you are.
You don't need to send real salary figures — a percentage is plenty.
Sponsorship. If you run something genuinely useful to people weighing job
offers, say so plainly and I'll take a look.
What not to send
Please don't send your actual offer letters, pay stubs, or account details. I don't need them
and I don't want to be holding them. A description of the problem is always enough.
I also can't give personal tax or financial advice. I'm not an accountant or an advisor, and a
question about your specific situation is better answered by someone who is.
Emails you send go to a regular inbox and are handled like any other email —
read, replied to, and eventually deleted. Nothing from your message is added to the site or
shared. See the privacy policy for the rest.
