That isn't a promise about how carefully we store your data. It's a statement about architecture: there is nowhere for your data to go.
Worth the Switch has no server, no database, and no account system. Every calculation runs in JavaScript on your own device. The salary figures, employer names, and locations you type are never transmitted anywhere, and the site operator cannot see them.
Don't take it on faith. Open your browser's developer tools, switch to the Network tab, and use the calculator. You'll see the page and its fonts load, and then nothing further. No request carries your inputs, because no such request exists.
You can also save the page and run it with your wifi off. It works identically, which would be impossible if it depended on a server.
Nothing you enter is stored between visits. Close the tab and it's gone, including from your own device.
This site sets no cookies and uses no cookie-based tracking, which is why you aren't seeing a consent banner.
Your light or dark mode preference is kept in your browser's local storage under
wts-theme. That's a single word, it never leaves your device, and clearing your
browser data removes it. It isn't used to identify or track you.
The PDF export is generated on your device from what's already on screen. It isn't uploaded, rendered remotely, or seen by anyone but you. Where it goes after you save it is up to you — it contains your compensation details, so treat it accordingly.
Typefaces load from Google Fonts, which means Google's servers receive your IP address and browser information as part of that request, as they would for any site using their fonts. They don't receive anything you type. If you'd rather avoid this entirely, the fonts can be self-hosted — let me know if that matters to you and I'll do it.
Links to outside sites — a county tax lookup, a source document — take you to services with their own privacy practices, which this policy doesn't cover.
This is a tool for people evaluating job offers and isn't directed at children under 13. No personal information is knowingly collected from anyone, of any age.
Privacy laws including the GDPR and the CCPA give you rights to access, correct, and delete personal data a business holds about you. Those rights are straightforward to honour here: there is no personal data to access, correct, or delete, because none is collected. If you believe otherwise, get in touch and I'll look into it.
If this site ever starts collecting data — analytics, advertising, or anything else — this page will be updated before that change goes live, and the date at the top will change with it. Material changes will also be noted on the calculator itself.
